Robert Indiana zählt zu den Vertretern der Pop-Art. Bekannte Arbeiten sind vor allem die LOVE-Bilder und Skulpturen, die auf vielfältige Weise imitiert wurden, das HOPE-Logo, die PEACE-Bilder oder auch seine Interpretationen des „American Dream“. Durch die Nutzung einfacher, einprägsamer Symbole und Zeichen gelingt es dem Künstler, sein kritisches Interesse an Politik und sozialen Themen sichtbar zu machen.
