Jeff Koons bedient sich für seine Arbeit bekannter Objekte der Konsumkultur. So ließ er sich beispielsweise von den häufig von Clowns auf Kinderfesten gefertigten Luftballontieren inspirieren, um in Anlehnung an diese riesige Skulpturen aus poliertem Edelstahl anzufertigen. Seine Werke, nah an der Grenze zum Kitsch, werden kontrovers diskutiert. Ungeachtet dessen gehört er zu den höchst gehandelten Künstlern des Marktes. Einer seiner Ausstellungshöhepunkte war 2008 die Präsentation seiner Skulpturen im Schloss von Versailles.
